Antique European Neoclassical Twin Handled Terracotta Garden Urn
Antique European Neoclassical Twin Handled Terracotta Garden Urn . This rare item features a prominent flame final top with a pedestal base and symmetrical twin handles. Its design mimics those tradional stone and bronze vessels from the late 18th to 19th centuries. Lidded terracotta vessels of this style often trace back to the lemon fields of Tuscany. In traditional Italian limonaie (lemon houses), these hollow vessels served a practical purpose during cold winter months. Workers filled the interior bowl with hot carbon bricks to radiate heat, keeping the local temperature above freezing to protect fragile citrus trees. The last photo shows the bottom of the pedestal base.
